Look Up King George County Inmate Records

King George County inmate records are searched through the regional jail system used for local adult custody. To look up King George County inmates online, start with the jail roster for current custody, then use state, federal, immigration, court, or records-request channels when the person is not listed. The King George County jail roster search is useful for booking and charge information, but it is not the same as a final court record or a state prison locator. Jail records, bond data, visitation rules, and release routing depend on the custody stage.

King George County Jail Roster

King George County inmate records for current adult jail custody are maintained through Rappahannock Regional Jail, not a stand-alone King George jail. RRJ's official website identifies King George as one of the localities served by the regional jail. The public roster is the RRJ JailTracker Public Roster, which is configured for current offenders. The King George County Sheriff's Office remains the local arrest and warrant agency, but the public jail record is held by RRJ after commitment or transfer.

That division of duties is important. The jail roster can show custody status, intake date, booking photo, charge text, statute, case number, court type, bond type, and bond amount. It does not replace Virginia court case search, and it does not track a sentenced state inmate after transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections. Federal and immigration custody also require separate locators unless the person is physically held at RRJ under a contract or hold.

Use the King George County Roster

The RRJ roster rejects an empty search, so start with a name, ID, or date. A JailTracker disclaimer may appear before results. It warns that roster content is determined by the facility and should be checked with the facility before conclusions are drawn. Current-only display is enabled, so a person who bonded out, transferred, or completed a short sentence may not remain searchable in the same public view.

The RRJ JailTracker roster screenshot below shows the public roster interface used for King George County inmate records.

The roster is the fastest public path for current custody, but phone, FOIA, and statewide locators still matter when the name does not appear.

  1. Open the RRJ JailTracker public roster from the jail's public inmate information link.
  2. Enter a last name, offender ID, permanent ID, or intake date range.
  3. Add first name, middle name, or gender if too many names return.
  4. Open the profile and compare the photo, intake date, identifiers, charges, court type, and bond fields.
  5. Use VADOC, BOP, ICE, VINELink, court search, or RRJ FOIA if the roster does not answer the question.

King George County Roster Fields

Research into the agency settings and public search form found that the roster requires a useful filter. The visible fields let a search begin by last name, offender ID, permanent ID, or intake date range. The application also contains release-date fields, but the current-only setting hides released search in the public interface.

King George County Inmate Profile

A roster profile is a jail record, not a conviction record. Sample RRJ profiles showed the identity fields used by the jail, booking-photo status, intake information, offense rows, bond data, court type, and additional details. The most useful check is to compare several fields at once. Do not rely on a photo alone, especially when a name is common or a record lists charges from another RRJ member locality.

The offense table is especially useful because it connects jail custody to the court process. Research found fields for offense, arrest code, statute, charge description, status, case number, control number, court type, court name, bond type, and bond amount. Court type examples included circuit court entries, and bond examples included bond denied, personal recognizance, cash or surety, and null values. A charge in this table can still change once the Commonwealth's Attorney and court process move forward.

King George County Booking Process

RRJ's Inmate Processing Division handles booking and release for people committed or transferred to the jail. Intake receives the person, enters identifying information, fingerprints through LiveScan, handles DNA swabs when required, serves legal paperwork on incarcerated inmates, schedules bond hearings for new warrants, and processes scheduled releases, bonding releases, and transfers. Inmate Records makes sure charges, bonds, court dates, and related information are entered into the jail management system.

Classification affects records and visits. RRJ says inmates are not eligible for regular visitation during the first 72 hours because classification and housing placement must occur, and the process can take longer. The annual report listed 9,348 bookings, 9,301 releases, and an average of 460 video arraignments per month during FY2023. A new booking may therefore exist inside the facility before every public-facing process is ready for family or visitor use.

Bond and Release Records

RRJ's bond page says bonding is available seven days a week. Cash bonds are posted directly with the magistrate or court, property bond questions go to the local magistrate, and a bail bondsman must have all parties present and required paperwork before release processing. RRJ checks every inmate in VCIN/NCIC before release. A detainer from another jurisdiction, probation or parole, federal custody, or immigration can keep a person in custody even after a local bond issue is resolved.

Sentence length also changes which agency handles the record. RRJ says local inmates with sentences totaling 12 months or less are computed by RRJ. State inmates with sentences over 12 months are computed by VADOC, and RRJ Inmate Records sends jail credits to VADOC for those inmates. That is the practical reason a King George County inmate may appear first in RRJ JailTracker and later in the VADOC locator. Time-served inmates are released at 8:00 a.m. on the date their sentence is satisfied, including weekends and holidays, according to RRJ's bond and release page.

Personal recognizance
Release based on a written promise rather than cash, when ordered by the court or magistrate.
Surety bond
A bond backed by a bondsman or surety.
Detainer
A hold or notice from another agency that can block release.
Bond denied
Custody continues unless a later court changes the bond conditions.

Note: RRJ states that court dates and release dates are provided to the inmate and are not given out for security reasons.

When King George Records Are Missing

If the RRJ roster does not show the person, work through the access channels in order. Call RRJ's main line at 540-288-5245 or the Inmate Processing Division at 540-288-5281 for jail routing. Contact the King George County Sheriff's Office at 540-775-2049 for sheriff-side questions such as local law-enforcement routing. For records not shown online, use RRJ FOIA officer Santina Thelen at 540-288-5268 or sthelen@rrj.state.va.us.

Use VADOC for sentenced state custody or supervision, BOP for federal prison records from 1982 to present, ICE ODLS for immigration detainees, Virginia VINELink for custody notifications, and Virginia court case search for charges after arrest. No official King George sheriff inmate or warrant mobile app was located in the research; GTL/VisitMe apps support visitation, not inmate lookup.

RRJ FOIA is the right route for existing jail records that are not in the public current roster. The jail says requests may be made by mail, fax, email, in person, or phone, and it prefers written requests by email or USPS. Virginia FOIA does not require the request to be written or to use the word FOIA, but the request must describe the existing record with reasonable specificity. Ask for a cost estimate if fees matter. RRJ's instructions list a five-working-day response period, possible redaction or withholding, and an added seven-working-day extension when allowed.

For court outcomes, search the Virginia court systems rather than asking the jail to interpret the prosecution. King George court records can show hearing dates, case status, disposition, amended charges, fines, costs, probation, jail sentence, appeal activity, and other docket entries. The roster is best for custody and booking context. The court portal is best for the legal result.

When a family member only needs notice, not a copy of a record, Virginia VINELink is the better channel. It is built for custody status and notification rather than a one-time roster search.
